Putin appreciated the idea of declaring 2023 in Russia the International Year of the Sea
Russian leader Vladimir Putin called it a good idea to declare 2023 the International Year of the Sea in Russia, TASS reports.
It is noted that this proposal was addressed to the President by the Minister of Transport of Russia Yevgeny Dietrich during Putin's inspection of the new icebreaker "Viktor Chernomyrdin" in St. Petersburg.
Dietrich said that the Council of the International Maritime Organization decided to hold in Russia in 2023 World Maritime Day (one of the annual holidays in the UN system).
In this regard, the minister asked Putin to allow the organization of this event, as well as to support the initiative "to declare 2023 in Russia the International Year of the Sea."
The President noted that it is necessary "to look at the calendar of various events."
“I have nothing against it, but it is necessary that there are no overlaps with any other events. In principle, the idea is good, ”Putin said.
He also supported the holding of World Maritime Day in Russia and added that it must be organized "at a good level."
Earlier, at a flag-raising ceremony on the new icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin, Putin praised the Russian ice fleet.
