The United States has officially withdrawn from the Paris Climate Agreement. TASS reports.

It is noted that the withdrawal from the agreement ended a year after the country notified the UN of its desire to withdraw from the obligations.

US President Donald Trump announced his withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement back in June 2017, because he believed that the document imposes opaque economic obligations on American companies and taxpayers. He admitted that later Washington could rejoin the treaty, but on more favorable terms.

The Climate Change Treaty was signed in 2015 and has been supported by 197 countries. The goal of the pact is to prevent the global average temperature from exceeding more than two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. By signing the treaty, the United States has pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent by 2025 from 2005 levels.
