Anatoly Altstein, a virologist, professor at the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, named the factor influencing re-infection with coronavirus in an interview with Sputnik radio.

According to him, the main protection against COVID-19 is human natural immunity. “If at the first infection with the infection, the immunity was very weak, and this can be in the asymptomatic form, then a person can get sick again,” the specialist said.

Altstein urged people who have suffered from the coronavirus to also take all precautions. “Even such a second infection may be, albeit rare, but more severe than the first,” he said.

Earlier, scientists from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York determined the period of retention of antibodies to coronavirus. Experts concluded that the level of antibodies to COVID-19 persists for an average of about five months. Such a period is possible if a person has suffered a disease in a mild or moderate form.
