There are two reasons for the higher incidence of COVID-19 in Sevastopol compared to the Republic of Crimea, Roman Proskurnin, head of the territorial department of Rospotrebnadzor in Sevastopol, told ForPost. The first is quite obvious - a higher population density. The second is a comparatively greater coverage of the population with laboratory tests than in the neighboring region.

“The population in Sevastopol is denser than, for example, in the steppe Crimea. This is the main thing. In addition, the demand for medical care is higher in urban conditions. In Sevastopol, the number of laboratory tests is higher. Their volume per person in Sevastopol is higher than in the Republic of Crimea. As a result, the detection rate of the disease is higher, ”said Proskurnin, commenting on the statement of his head Natalya Penkovskaya.

Affects the detection rate and the increased number of medical requests due to the seasonal increase in influenza and SARS.

Proskurnin assesses the current situation in Sevastopol as unstable.

“The restrictions introduced today, including the decision to extend the holidays, correspond to the unstable situation that is observed in Sevastopol. The situation will change - the restrictive measures will also change, ”said Proskurnin.

The fact that in Sevastopol the incidence rate is higher than in the Republic of Crimea, the head of the interregional department of Rospotrebnadzor in Crimea and Sevastopol Natalya Penkovskaya said on the air of Sputnik in Crimea radio, commenting on different solutions to extend the holidays in two regions. In Crimea, the holidays will not be longer than usual, and in Sevastopol they will be extended by a week.

At the same time, Penkovskaya noted that it is incorrect to compare Crimea and Sevastopol due to the different distribution of the population in the regions.

“Sevastopol is as big a center for our peninsula as Simferopol. This is a city, a completely different population density, a different number of schools. The incidence figures are also different. In Sevastopol, the incidence rate is slightly higher, ”she said.

The situation is noticeably different in different regions of Crimea. In cities, the situation is worse with both COVID-19 and SARS. The growth of coronavirus today is most noticeable in Yalta and Alushta.

Recall: 84 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Sevastopol on the morning of November 6, four people died. In the Republic of Crimea, 130 cases were detected per day, six people died with COVID-19. At the same time, the real number of people living in the regions differs greatly from the number of registered ones, and this also does not allow correct comparisons.
